Our Llewellins

If you are interested in the history of the Llewellin Setter in America, I recommend reading the Fields of Glory, written by Everett M. Skehan. It is not a book about the history of the development of the breed.  Rather, it includes the significant and exiting contributions  that the Llewellin Setter had on the Field Trial circuit which began in 1874.  In fact, the very first American Field Trial was won by National Champion Count Gladstone the IV, a "blue blood" Llewellin Setter.  Prior to the introduction of the Llewellin Setters in America, there was importations of the English Setter that were used for the elite hunters.  By research of many generations of "Field type" English Setters back to late 1800's, one will find that the foundation stock were in fact Llewellin Setters.
